The New York Yankees are currently in last place of the American League East with an 18-22 record, but have been relatively hot of late as they’ve won 7 of their last 11 games. They’ll look to carry the momentum on Friday night when they continue their road trip out west with the 2nd game of a 4-game series with the Oakland Athletics.

Oakland has been equally unimpressive overall for the year, as they’re currently sitting in 4th place in the American league West with a 19-23 record. They had won 4 in a row till the Ivan Nova and the Yankees ended that streak last night with a 4-1 win to open the series.

The Yankees will send their workhorse to the mound in left hander C.C. Sabathia. While C.C. hasn’t been dominate like he has in years past, he’s still 2-2 in his decisions on the year, and carries a 3.81 ERA. He’ll meet Oakland’s Sonny Gray, who is 3-4 on the year with a 5.84 ERA. However, Sonny has been less than impressive of late as he’s gone 0-2 with a no decision in his last 3 starts, including a 9.36 ERA during that 3-game span.

The Yankees have struggled on the road this season on their way to a 6-12 road record and averaging only 2.8 runs during those games. Oakland has been almost as bad at home as they’re currently 8-12 on the year.

Inconsistency at the plate has plagued both teams throughout the year, and both will have to get back on track soon if they wish to still be in the discussion by time the All Star Break rolls around. Oakland is 3-1 against the Yankees this season and will look to push that mark to 4-1 on Friday behind the right handed Sonny Gray.
