About Stadium

A multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility located in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, the Xcel Energy Center primarily serves as the home-ice for the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild.

The arena has four levels for spectators: A suite level located in the middle of the facility, and three levels of general seating. The maximum capacity for hockey games at the stadium is 17,954.

The Xcel Energy Center is operated and managed by the Minnesota Sports and Entertainment group, but is owned by the city of Saint Paul.

In addition to being the home f the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, the stadium was also home to the National Lacrosse League’s Minnesota Swarm before the league went defunct.

History

• Construction of the stadium took just over two years to complete with the ground breaking held on June 23, 1998 and the grand opening on September 29, 2000.

• It was named as the best overall sports venue in the country by ESPN in 2004 and is recognized for its exceptional fan experience.

• In 2010 the stadium was again recognized by claiming the title as the 3rd best fan experience in sports by ESPN the Magazine.

• In addition to being the home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, the venue also hosts a number of musical and entrainment events throughout the years including names like Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. in 2004.
