About Stadium

AT&T stadium is the most lavish stadium in sports and is the home of the Dallas Cowboys. After being estimated at a price tag of $650 million, the final cost of the stadium totaled $1.15 billion. The stadium contains one-of-a-kind pieces of art made by world renowned artists as well as a number of attractions for fans who travel from around the world to experience AT&T Stadium. The stadium is also sometimes referred to as “Jerry World” after prominent owner Jerry Jones.

With a capacity of 80,000 seats, it’s the 3rd largest NFL stadium for seating capacity, and including standing room, the stadium can hold up to 105,000 people when expanded for larger events.

The stadium not only features a retractable roof supported by massive arches, but above the field hangs a large high definition video board. Once it was the Guinness World Record holder for its 160 ft x 72 ft screen face, it’s now second behind Everbank Stadium, the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The stadium has been the regular home for a number of College Bowl games including the Big 12 Championship Game, Cotton Bowl Classic, Advocare Classic, Southwest Classic, and it’s also featured the College Football Playoff National Championship game. In addition, it’s also been the host site of the 2014 Men’s NCAAB Final Four and an NBA All Star Weekend.

The venue features art from 18 famous contemporary artists who created work specifically for the stadium. Among the creations are paintings and sculptures, as well as a number of installations by Doug Aitken, Ricci Albenda, Franz Ackerman, Daniel Buren, Doyle Hancock, Annette Lawrence, and Dave Muller, among others.

Ground was broken on the stadium’s creation on September 20, 2005, and the stadium opened on May 27, 2009.

History

• In 1997, owner Jerry Jones began talks with officials from Arlington about the prospect of building a stadium there. It wasn’t till April of 2004 that the plans for a stadium and its location were announced for the downtown Arlington area, and residents of ground zero were bought out of their homes by the city.

• In January of 2006, Manhattan Construction based in Oklahoma, is awarded the contract to build the new stadium.

• June of 2008, Jerry Jones commissioned the creation of the world’s largest HDTV screen to hang above the stadium’s field.

• It’s been the annual home of the Cotton Bowl Classic since 2010 when Ole Miss beat Oklahoma State 21-7 in the 74th ever Cotton Bowl.

• In 2010, AT&T Stadium hosted the Super Bowl where the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• In 2014 the Men’s National NCAAB Final Four Tournament was held at the stadium.

• On February 14, 2010 the NBA held its All Star game there, and set an all-time record for largest Basketball game attendance ever with 108,713.
