A multi-purpose indoor facility located in downtown Buffalo, New York, the KeyBank Center is primarily the home-ice for the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres.

The stadium was originally known as First Niagara Center, then HSBC Arena, and Marine Midland Arena before reaching its current name, KeyBank Center.

It’s currently the largest indoor venue in all of Western New York with a seating capacity of 19,070 fans for hockey games.

The arena has been the home-ice for the Buffalo Sabres since opening in 1996 when it replied their old home arena, the Memorial Auditorium which has been since demolished.

History

• Opened: September 21, 1996

• The naming rights to the stadium were sold to KeyCorp on October 30, 2015, who renamed the arena KeyBank Center.

• Construction of the stadium took just under two years to complete after starting on November 4, 1994 and opening on September 21, 1996.

• An eight-sided JumboTron scoreboard by Daktronics fell to the ice on november 16, 1996. Nobody was injured in the accident, and it was promptly removed.

• A major renovation was made to the stadium during the Summer and Fall of 2011, including both new home and away locker rooms, updated concessions, as well as a number of fan experience enhancements.
