A multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena locate in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the Scotiabank Saddledome serves primarily as the home-ice for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League.

In addition to being the home of the Calgary Flames in the NHL, the Scotiabank Saddledome is also home of the NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks and the Calgary hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

The stadium hosts a variety of events from hockey, lacrosse, and many other sports, to musical concerts and major events events.

The city of Calgary owns the facility who leases it to the Saddledome Foundation which is a non-profit organization, who operates the venue.

History

• Construction for the facility took over two years to complete with the ground breaking ceremony held on July 29, 1981 and the grand opening held on October 15 of 1983.

• The stadium suffered major damages during the 2013 Alberta Floods, but was repaired and opened again in time for the coming 2013-2014 NHL Season.

• The original cost of the stadium was estimated to be $60 million, but was stretched to $80 million upon completion in 1983.

• The original seating capacity for the stadium was only 16,605 for hockey games, but has been expanded a number of times over the years and it currently holds 19,289 fans for Calgary Flames games.
